You must know the depth of the frost line and the date of the first major frost if you plan to do any type of gardening in the winter.

For cold climates you’ll probably want to dig up and store bulbs in a cool, dark location until the frost danger has passed.

If you can’t afford a greenhouse the best alternative is building tunnels instead. They will keep your crop safe from the cold. For winter harvest vegetables high tunnels are another great option, they might be difficult to build but they are definitely worth it.
5. Cover Your Crop With Fabric
Covering your crop for the extremely cold winter days is a very common practice, this prevents your plants from getting damaged when the first frost hits.
6. Weed Control
Use The Cold Weather as an opportunity to get rid of unwanted weeds in your garden. As soon as you see a weed appear pull them up be sure to get them entirely, if the ground is soft enough you won’t have any trouble removing them completely from the ground with little to no effort at all.
